District graduation rates outstanding

Preliminary high school graduation rates are in for the 2018 school year and it’s great news for Longview Public Schools.

The preliminary district graduation rate finished at 88.1 percent for the 2018 school year.

All three high schools showed graduation rate growth over the previous year, which is fantastic. R. A. Long High School finished 2018 with a 96.3 percent graduation rate, Mark Morris 89.3 percent and Discovery High School 60.6 percent.

In 2017 the district graduation rate finished at 81.3 percent, which was 2 percentage points better than the state average. This 2018 statewide graduation rate is not yet available for comparison.

Over the last four years Longview Public Schools 4-year graduation rates increased every year.

In 2015 the district graduation rate finished at 73 percent, 2016 improved to 75.5 percent, 2017 increased to 81.3 percent and finally the 2018 preliminary graduation rate is 88.1 percent.

Overall, the graduation rate of Longview Public High Schools has shown improvement the last four years in a row, an amazing achievement and great for the community.
