Mark Morris students Bryson Byman, Rex Clarke, and Kevin Jurmu not only competed in the Lower Columbia College High School Welding Competition recently; they placed first out of twelve regional teams. These Career and Technical Education (CTE) Monarchs successfully demonstrated their skills in arc welding and cutting.  A written test was also a competition component.

Welding instructor Tim Lam said, “These are great kids who put in a lot of hard work. But also, a win like this demonstrates what the continuing support and commitment to CTE programs districtwide can achieve. The Longview School District has made it a goal to provide tremendous support to all CTE programs.”

First place winners were awarded a trophy, and coats and tools donated by local businesses. Mr. Lam said, “Without the continued support from local businesses such as Big C Industries, JH Kelly, and Waite Specialty Machine this would not be possible. Their support is vital to our continuing mission to provide quality programs.”
